!!WARNING!! ALL THESE TRICKS WERE LANDED ALMOST 8 YEARS AGO. THEY WERE HARD THEN SO RESPECT THE GAME. THESE ARE JUST A FEW OF THE INNOVATORS OF KENDAMA AS WE KNOW IT TODAY.
If you are reading this and started playing kendama in the past 4-5 years you probably haven't seen the edits below. These are a few of the players that inspired me to play when I was first starting my kendama journey. Most of the tricks you see in this edit were being landed for the first time. So if you have been playing for 2 years and can do 8 tap, jug, insta, insta trade to bird GOOD FOR YOU! But kendama started in a completely different place before it morphed into the game we play today. So enjoy 3 of my favorite throwback edits of all time.
Zack Yourd Edit #3 - August 15th, 2008
I heard the song to this edit on the way to work this morning and couldn't help but think of Zack. He is the real inspiration for this blog today. This edit has Zack landing the first ever Triple Lunar Flip!!!! I dare anyone who reads this to grab your JKA dama off your shelf and try to land a Triple Lunar, it is almost impossible. So shout out to my dama homie Zack Yourd , thanks for the inspiration.
Chaz Edward Edit #6 - September 4th, 2010
Chaz Edwards is one of the most legendary kendama players to live. That is why is on our He pushed kendama tricks further than anyone in the beginning of kendama. He was doing taps, instas, juggles and many other tricks before we had names for any of that stuff. I watched him more than any other player in the game when I started playing kendama. I remember watching him land tricks I thought no one would land ever again. I may have also stole my signature Sweets Rage from Chaz. He is the king of lacing a huge line and missing the final spike. You will see him rage a few times in this video. Enjoy.
Turner Thorne Audition Edit - October 14th, 2010
Here is an OG player that paved the way for so many up and coming kendama players. Turner was (and is) a really good freestyle skier that broke his leg one season and decided to jam kendama while he recovered. I may be wrong but I believe this is Turners Entry into the sponsor me contest Kendama USA threw in 2010 or 2011. Turner is famous for being one of the first people to land the trick border balance. Fun fact: Turner is the first person I ever competed against in an actual contest. It was at the Kengarden in San Francisco in May of 2011. All of Turners edits are worth a watch.
